Scott grew up on the east side of Columbus and graduated from Independence High School in 2002. He enlisted in the Army in 2004 as a tank mechanic and deployed to Iraq in 2005. He joined the Army Reserve in 2008 as a paralegal, where he has mobilized four times and continues to serve today.

He has worked as a youth mentor for children with severe behavioral challenges. He promotes minority-owned businesses on the Main Street corridor of Olde Towne East. He volunteers for community events and can routinely be found collecting litter. He is also a trustee of the Olde Towne East Neighborhood Association.

Scott currently serves in the Army Reserve as a special victim paralegal, where he helps victims of sexual assault navigate the legal process. He has also served as an equal opportunity leader, suicide prevention trainer, combat lifesaver, and substance abuse prevention leader.

Scott works as a full-time accountant and a part-time contracts officer. His experience has developed his understanding of the challenges faced by small businesses.
