Charter Member, Rise Sister Rise Black Girl Think Tank

Aliya Horton has accomplished a lot in her short 20 years.

Aliya is a charter member of the Black Girl Rising, Inc./Rise Sister Rise Black Girl Think Tank. Aliya is dedicated to what she believes in and motivated to create social change for Black people, especially Black girls and young women.

Aliya Horton is a 3rd year pre-law student at The Ohio State University with a double major in political science and philosophy. She graduated from Horizon Science Academy and was president of the school’s National Honor Society.

In 2016 Aliya and the other charter members were invited to the White House during the Obama Administration to meet with staff of the White House Council on Women and Girls.

Aliya presented at the United State of Women Regional Conference in Columbus and discussed the social action work of the Rise Sister Rise Black Girl Think Tank.

In 2018 Aliya Horton received the Empowered Young Woman Award by the Diva Movement. The Diva Movement is an organization of hundreds of women entrepreneurs who each year honor the achievements of talented and ambitious high school girls who are on the road to success.

Because of Aliya’s leadership abilities she was chosen in 2018 as Co-Chair of the RSR Black Girl Think Tank Mental Health Campaign over the next three years. Aliya gave voice and direction to the issues girls identified as critical to impacting the mental health of Black girls.

Along with her Think Tank sisters, over the past five years, Aliya has presented papers and given national and local presentations on the importance of the Black Girl Mental Health Campaign.

For the past three years, Aliya Horton has represented Black Girl Rising, Inc. and herself serving on the national Youth Advisory Council of the Center on Poverty and Inequality of the Georgetown University Law Center. Her representation and active participation continues.

For the past two years Aliya has served as Moderator and Facilitator of the I’ve Got Your Back, Sister! Summer Camp sponsored by Black Girl Rising, Inc. and funded by the ADAMH Board of Franklin County.
