Board Chair, Capitol Square Foundation
Charley Moses has helped to shepherd numerous arts and culture projects in Central Ohio for more than three decades. His more than 20 years as chair of the Capitol Square Foundation exemplifies his commitment to this work. In his role with the foundation, Mr. Moses led the effort to build the Ohio Statehouse Museum. This included substantial renovations to the space and the installation of new exhibits. As a result, the museum now houses interactive exhibits which encourage citizen engagement with the civic process and honors Ohio’s unique history. Major artwork in the Statehouse has been restored under his leadership. Most recently, he played a critical role in the commission and installation of the first new, permanent work of fine art at the Ohio Statehouse in 66 years. Titled “Ohioans in Space,” the large oil painting features Ohioans who made extraordinary contributions to space travel.
In his career at the Ohio Telecom Association and his time as chair of the Capitol Square Foundation, Mr. Moses led the effort to bring historians, journalists, and film makers to Capitol Square. The list includes Doris Kearns Goodwin, David McCullough, Ken Burns, Tom Brokaw, David Brooks, Michael Beschloss, David Gergen, Douglas Brinkley, Bob Woodward & Carl Bernstein, John Glenn & Robert Kennedy Jr, Susan Eisenhower, and Mark Shields.
In 2018, Mr. Moses became a member of the Ohio History Connection’s board, after previously collaborating with the organization to bring the original 1802 and 1851 Ohio Constitutions to the Ohio Statehouse Museum for public display. Now board president, he leads the board’s effort to allow full public access to the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks.
