Janet B. Reid, Ph.D. is the CEO of BRBS World, LLC, a private, boutique, global management consulting consortium in Cincinnati, Ohio. She and the consortium serve a select group of forward-leaning clients whose growth is dependent upon building world-class leaders. She has extensive board experience and has been active in civic affairs on a local, state and national level.
Dr. Reid was a founder of the international management consulting firm, Global Novations, LLC. Global Novations, a former Goldman Sachs portfolio company, conducted client work in over 60 countries and specialized in building organizational capacity and innovation through effective talent management. Prior to the acquisition of Global Novations by Korn Ferry International, Dr. Reid held the position of Managing Partner and member of the Board of Directors. Prior to founding Global Novations, Dr. Reid spent a decade at the Procter and Gamble Company where she was first an innovation and product development executive and later a patent holder and marketing executive of the Sunny Delight brand. In addition to her scientific and marketing contributions, Dr. Reid was a pioneer in leading diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and was given a Procter and Gamble Pioneering Woman award for groundbreaking results in changing corporate culture.
She is a thought-leader in diversity, equity and inclusion having co-authored the book The Phoenix Principles: Leveraging Inclusion to Transform your Company and the Phoenix Principles Work Book, with V. Randolph Brown. Her most recent book with V. Randolph Brown, Intrinsic InclusionTM: Rebooting Your Biased Brain, will be published in the fall of 2020. She and Mr. Brown developed the concepts of Cultural DexterityTM, Familiarity, Comfort and Trust (FCTTM), Global BeadsTM and many other intellectual properties of Global Novations. Dr. Reid also created the powerful executive coaching and team building solutions named Success PathTM, Success Path PairsTM and Success Path TeamsTM. The Success PathTM suite of coaching options has had a significant impact on 10,000+ executives worldwide. Currently, she and Mr. Brown are the founders of an international group of scientists who are exploring the intersection of neuroscience with diversity, equity and inclusion. Dr. Reid has established the Intrinsic Inclusion Institute at the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute at West Virginia University.
Dr. Reid has consulted on all aspects of talent management and domestic/global diversity, equity and inclusion with boards of directors, CEOs, presidents, and all levels of leaders and associates in over 500 organizations. These include: national and multi-national corporations and organizations; not-for-profits; institutions of higher education; and, government agencies. While having worked in countries across many continents, she has especially deep experience in China, due to 20+ years of consulting there.
Dr. Reid has a great passion for higher education and health care and has a long history of community and business leadership. In higher education, she completed a nine-year term on the Board of Trustees of The Ohio State University. She is also on the Board of Trustees of Xavier University in Cincinnati. The Ohio State University has over 63,000 students and is a top ranked research and undergraduate institution. On Ohio State’s Board, Dr. Reid was Vice Chair of the Board, Chair of the Governance Committee, and Vice Chair of the Talent and Compensation Committee. She was the past Chair of the Advancement Committee (where a $2.5bn campaign was successfully completed), and a member of the Academic Affairs and Student Life Committees. Xavier University, with 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students, is a private, Jesuit institution that is dedicated to forming students intellectually and morally so to be of service to others. On Xavier’s Board, she is Chair of the combined Academic Affairs and Student Life Committee and serves on the Executive and Governance Committees. She is also past Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Her extensive health care experience spans 25+ years and includes her past service as a member of the Board of Trustees of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, a $2bn+ academic medical center comprised of a College of Medicine, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, 6 hospitals, 900+ beds, 12+ research institutes, and primary and specialty care facilities throughout Ohio. She is currently on the Board of Directors of Bon Secours Mercy Health, a $9bn health system with 50 hospitals across 7 states and the Republic of Ireland. It is one of the nation’s 20 largest health care systems. There, she serves on the Human Resources Committee.
Her past healthcare leadership includes being a member of the ChoiceCare Board of Directors. ChoiceCare was the largest and most successful HMO (health maintenance organization) in the Cincinnati region. It was sold to Humana. After the sale, Dr. Reid became Chair of the Board of The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, which was a $250 million foundation serving 10+ counties.
She is a past member of the Board of Directors and/or Chair of the Board of Directors of: the Cincinnati Branch Board of the Federal Reserve Bank; the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce (the 6th largest chamber of commerce in the United States and she was the first woman/person of color to chair the board in 160 years); the United Way of Greater Cincinnati, where she Chaired the Government Affairs Committee; The Greater Cincinnati Foundation, the Wexner Center for the Arts and many others. Dr. Reid has received numerous honors and awards over the years including: Laureate, The Greater Cincinnati Business Hall of Fame; Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year; Deloitte and Touche 100 Wise Women; A.K. Steel Foundation Steel Magnolia award; Cincinnati Youth Collaborative Dream Maker Youth Champion; Cincinnati Enquirer Woman of the Year; YWCA Career Woman of Achievement; Leadership Cincinnati Distinguished Alumni; Procter and Gamble Pioneering Black Woman; Fifth Third Bank Profiles in Courage; Speaking of Women’s Health Woman of Honor; and, many more.
Dr. Reid is married to Col. Dr. Calvin Washington, DVM and they have four children and three grandchildren.
