Government & Politics Reporter, The Associated Press
Award-winning journalist, political commentator and history geek covering government, politics and all things Ohio.
Julie has spent the past two decades reporting on her native Ohio, a testing ground for hot-button policy issues and home to eight presidents and a fascinating array of other notables she’s written about, including the Wright brothers, John Glenn, Toni Morrison, Maya Lin, Drs. Henry Heimlich and John Willke and Gloria Steinem.
After an early career at smaller newspapers, Julie worked as a government and business reporter for the Times Union in Albany, NY, and at the Orlando Sentinel covering air travel. She joined The Plain Dealer as legislative and political reporter in 2000 and moved to the same beat at The Associated Press in 2006. She has been honored for her work in investigative and explanatory journalism and has earned the Best Reporter in Ohio prize. She appears regularly before groups and on public affairs broadcasts.
Born in Columbus, Julie attended Ohio State University, where she earned a bachelor’s in journalism and, later, a master’s in public affairs journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow. She is married and has a daughter.
