Chief Academic Officer, Columbus City Schools

Kyra Schloenbach is the where she oversees all functions of Academic Services. This work includes: the PreK-12 content creation, alignment, program design and instructional models for staff and students across the educational continuum.

Kyra facilitates research based, data driven approaches to system wide teaching and learning. In addition, she is a strong advocate of forward thinking, innovative solutions that will accelerate the achievement and growth of the diverse spectrum of learners in Columbus City Schools. The Department of Academic Services currently includes three offices: Teaching and Learning, Specialized Instruction and Inclusion, and Accelerated and Extended Learning.

Prior to assuming this role, Kyra was Executive Director of Special Education & Student Support Services for the district. While serving in this role, she oversaw health services during the first two years of the pandemic, improved outcomes for students who receive special education services, served on the negotiation team for the union agreement and on the strategic plan leadership group.

Kyra began her career as a speech language pathologist and while practicing, specialized in augmentative and alternative communication. While her tremendous experience, commitment, and leadership skills have moved beyond therapy rooms and clinics, early literacy intervention, supporting children with receptive/expressive language disorders, and working with twice exceptional students continue to hold special places in her heart.
