Assistant Executive Director/Chief DEI Officer, Franklin County Children Services
At Franklin County Children Services (FCCS), LaShaun is responsible for assessing and developing the strategic plan for the agency. He is responsible for ensuring that the efforts of the organization are in line with its Mission and Guiding Principles. He is also committed to the notion that equity is embedded in all we do and ensures this by fostering respectful and effective collaboration across ages, classes, ethnicities, genders, races, religions, sexual orientations, and other cultural identities. He does this in a manner that recognizes, affirms and values the worth of individuals, families, and communities while protecting and preserving the dignity of each. Ultimately, he upholds FCCS’s guiding principles by serving as a child welfare professional, valuing every child, honoring families, and valuing partnerships.
LaShaun routinely consults with human service professionals, educators, industry partners, and collective impact organizations across the country as he continues to seek innovative ways to support school aged children. Notably, his recent work in convening the Columbus community around social emotional learning strategies has resulted in his collaborating with partners across the country seeking to implement similar programs. He also serves on the national Badge Alliance research initiative and is investigating the innovative ways in which our schools, universities, child welfare organizations, employers, and child support agencies can credential student experiences through the innovative use of digital badging. This collaborative work has resulted in organizations across the country seeking LaShaun’s expertise in innovative program design. LaShaun is frequently called upon to share his experiences in designing strategic plans, collaborative action plans that enhance partnership effectiveness, and fostering opportunities for expanded flexibility and connected learning environments for all children.
LaShaun serves the community in many ways, serving on the African American Leadership Academy, IMPACT Community Action, Africentric Early College Advisory Boards, as well as The City of Columbus Community Safety Advisory Commission and the Columbus Chief of Police Advisory Panel. He lives in Gahanna with his wife Cheree, and children Chyna (23), LaDaia (4), and Kross (1).
