Executive Director and CEO, Ohio History Connection

Megan Wood is the Director of the Cultural Resources Division for the Ohio History Connection. The Cultural Resources Division is responsible for the Ohio History Connection’s system of 58 historic sites, 1.8 million collection items, and all exhibitions across the sites. Megan obtained a B.A. in Public History from Western Michigan University and a M.A. in History Museum Studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program. Most of her career has focused on education and learning in museums. Megan is an active member of the American Association for State and Local History and the American Alliance of Museum and is currently serving at the chair for the museum educator’s professional network EdCom.

Prior to serving in most recent role, Megan held a variety of positions with the organization. She started at the State Coordinator for National History Day in Ohio in 2006 and in 2011 moved into the role as the Visitor Experience Department Manager in the years that the Ohio Village re-opened for regular public hours. From 2014-2015 she moved to the Historic Ford Estates in the Detroit area and served as the Associate Vice President for Education and Visitor Experience. In 2015, Megan returned as the Director of Museum and Library Services where she began a deeper work connection with the site system. In that role she also oversaw a major project to improve the State Archives storage.

Over the years Megan has worked on such projects as the Ohio as America online textbooks, the Controversy exhibits, 1950s: Building the American Dream, the Ohio Constitutions exhibits at the Ohio Statehouse, the Harding Presidential Center building, and the upcoming new collections storage facility.

Megan believes in the power of history as a way to better understand ourselves and our place in this world. As the next CEO of the Ohio History Connection, the organization will embrace its role to share Ohio’s diverse stories and to make Ohio communities better as a partner with other governmental, non-profit, and private partners. “The Ohio History Connection can continue to grow vibrant organization that improves every community we touch by cultivating pride, encouraging economic development, and by bringing people together.”

Megan lives in Worthington with her husband and two children.
