Editor, The New Republic
Michael Tomasky was named editor of The New Republic in early 2021. He is also the editor of Democracy: A Journal of Ideas, a policy quarterly journal based in Washington. He is a regular contributor to The New York Review of Books, for which he has written more than 50 pieces over the past 20 years. From 2016 through 2020, he was a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times. He has also written for The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The Daily Beast, and many other publications and has made frequent television and radio appearances.
He is the author of five books, most recently If We Can Keep It, a history of polarization in America. His next book, The Middle Out, about the politics of economic policy-making, will come out in September. He lives outside Washington DC with his wife and daughter.
