Black Heritage Special Collections Librarian, Columbus Metropolitan Library
Nicole Sutton is the Black Heritage Special Collections Librarian in Local History & Genealogy at the Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML). She holds bachelor’s degrees in Marketing and Interpersonal Communication from the University of Central Oklahoma, a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship from Oklahoma State University, and a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Oklahoma. Nicole has a passion for research, helping others to access information, and creating space for people to tell their stories.
Since moving to Columbus, Ohio in 2017, Nicole has learned a lot about the history of her new home, and loves sharing that history with others. She hosts a monthly program at CML called the Black Heritage Collection Spotlight where she and a special guest discuss Black history in Columbus using materials from the library’s collection. Nicole serves as a trustee for the James Preston Poindexter Foundation board. She is a cohort member of the 2023 YWCA Columbus Leadership for Social Change program. She is a co-chair of the Society of Ohio Archivists Justice, Equity, Diversity, Accessibility, and Inclusion committee. She was also a member of the Columbus Undesign the Redline Advisory Committee. Outside of the library, Nicole can most often be found playing tabletop games, enjoying the outdoors, or listening to audiobooks.
