Community Organizer, Columbus Safety Collective

Steve David joined the College of Social Work in 2016, and currently serves as the advocacy director. His work focuses on creating opportunities for social workers and students to expand their advocacy skills and political involvement.

Steve has developed trainings on activism and advocacy practice, and conducted workshops to equip social workers with skills to discuss voter engagement with clients in their existing practice settings. He also coordinates the college’s annual DC advocacy trip, which takes students to Washington DC to elevate social work issues on the federal level.

An active member of the Columbus CARE Coalition, Steve has been involved in the efforts to spread awareness about trauma to service provides and neighborhoods across the city. He participates in the CARE Community Trauma Resource Team, which conducts neighborhood outreach following incidents of community violence.

Before coming to the College of Social Work, Steve served as the communications manager for the ACLU of Ohio. He managed media relations, website content and promoting campaigns around free speech, voting rights and criminal justice reform.

Steve also teaches social welfare policy as a staff lecturer in the College of Social Work.

He and his wife are both licensed social workers, and live in south Columbus with their son.
