Director of the Department of Development, City of Columbus
Steve Schoeny leads a team of 190 employees responsible for housing, code enforcement, economic development, land redevelopment, and planning. The Department of Development (DOD) has an operating budget of $32.8 million and oversees $44.6 million in Capital Budget Funds.
He joined the City in 2013 after serving as a principal with Ice Miller Whiteboard. Schoeny worked as director of the Strategic Business Investment Division of the Ohio Department of Development from 2006 to 2010. Prior to that, Schoeny worked for the Ohio Department of Development International Trade Division, Economic Consulting Services Inc., and the Institute for International Economics.
Schoeny received Bachelor’s Degrees in Political Science and Economics from Ohio University and a Master’s Degree in Public Management and International Security and Economic Policy from the University of Maryland.
