Tammy Wharton

President & CEO, Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland

Tammy Wharton became Chief Executive Officer for Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland in November 2008. She formerly served as CEO of Girl Scouts Seal of Ohio Council and led the council through a successful merger. She enjoys advocating for the most critical issues in order to forward the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Recently, Wharton successfully advocated for Columbus to be the host of the 2017 National Girl Scout Convention, which brought in Girl Scouts from around the United States and abroad.

Suzy Swanson, past Board Chair, said of Wharton, “She brings with her a passion for the mission of Girl Scouts, as well as the professional leadership skills and experience required to lead an organization serving over 30,000 girls.”

Responding to challenges is nothing new to Wharton. During high school and college, she achieved national recognition as a USA National Team member in Synchronized Swimming. Her drive toward excellence continues throughout her career and was recognized in 2002 through Business First’s 40 Under Forty award, and in January 2013 with the Rea & Associates Non Profit Executive Director of the Year award.

Volunteering with Franklin County Children Services, The Ohio State University Non-Profit Advisory Committee, the United Way of Central Ohio, and the Human Services Chamber of Franklin County are just some of the ways Wharton gives back to the community.

Wharton has a Master of Science in Human Services from Capella University with a specialization in non-profit management and an undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University in communications. She resides with her husband Dave, and their two children in New Albany, Ohio.
