Art in the Air

This event has ended, but don't worry we have a new forum each week!

Developing a Dynamic Downtown Series

Can a spectacular new piece of public art help to revitalize downtown Columbus? That’s the intention of Columbus developer Jeff Edwards and renowned artist Janet Echelman, whose enormous new sculpture, “Current,” will appear to float above the intersection of Gay and High Streets beginning this June. The spectacular artwork, made from 78 miles of net-like twine and bound together with more than a half-million knots, will be the city’s largest public art installation and was privately funded by Edwards. The work will be illuminated at night and is similar to other celebrated Echelman installations displayed around the world. Join CMC as we unpack how this newest addition to the Columbus art scene became reality and how the combination of public art and private investments can help breathe new cultural life into Ohio’s capital city.

Featuring Janet Echelman, Sculptor and Principal, Studio Echelman,, Jeff Edwards, Chairman, CEO, & President, Installed Building Products and Edwards Companies, and host Tom Katzenmeyer, President & CEO, Greater Columbus Arts Council, with introductory remarks by Marshall Shorts, Creative-N-Chief, Artfluential, and Founding Board Member, Maroon Arts Group.
