A Letter to Our Members and the Community

To CMC Members and the Columbus Community.

In June 1976, Columbus Metropolitan Club was founded on the concept that everyone is welcome to the discussion.

During the 44 years since, CMC’s mission and intent has always been to connect people and ideas through community conversation – to convene meaningful conversations, bring a variety of perspectives from many different voices to the stage with the mantra of “diversity, discussion and debate.” It’s a unique role in the community and as its leadership team of board and professional staff we take it very seriously.

The Metropolitan Club remains steadfast in its role during the current racial unrest. We are committed to bringing voices to the stage to address racism, to provide the opportunity to educate ourselves and discuss possible solutions. That commitment means investing the time needed, collecting input from our fellow black leaders and others to determine what topics and what speakers are best suited to discuss these issues. This is a long-term commitment and we will dedicate time and resources to host meaningful conversations with the most qualified people on stage.

We began on June 17 by presenting Kevin Boyce, Franklin County Commissioner and Priscilla Tyson, Columbus City Council member discussing “Racism: A Public Health Crisis.”

On June 24, we continue with a series entitled “Racism: Where do we go from here?” with a discussion among black youth. More programming is being developed and will be announced soon.

We are dedicated to listening, learning, and coming to a better understanding through community conversation and we invite you to join us.
