The withdrawal of US Forces from Afghanistan resulted in the rapid takeover of the country by the Taliban and an enormous humanitarian crisis. Afghans fearful of reprisal from the country’s new rulers have been and continue to be desperate to leave the chaotic country for safer parts of the world, with Columbus among their many destinations. Ohio’s capital city will welcome 350 Afghans, just part of the 37,000 refugees fleeing the county for the U.S. and the 855 coming to Ohio. Multiple Columbus organizations have been working frantically behind the scenes to help these incoming families find housing, obtain basic household supplies, learn and practice English, and cope with the myriad challenges of relocating to a new country during a deadly conflict. Hear from key leaders in Columbus working to help these Afghan refugees create new homes in the Buckeye State.
