Democracy in Crisis: Courts Under Attack

This event has ended, but don't worry we have a new forum each week!

Steve & Vanessa Marks Legacy in Civic Engagement Forum Focusing on Civility in Politics | Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer Legacy Committee of the Ohio Bar Association Lecture Series | Democracy in Crisis Series

Fair and impartial courts are critical to democracy and the rule of law. Can courts withstand an era when personal attacks on judges and legislative assaults on courts have become frequent? Public trust in judges can become eroded when judges are seen or portrayed simply as politicians in robes. What will the role of courts be in preserving American democracy, and what role can civic education play in protecting a fair and impartial judiciary?

Featuring Michael Curtin, Former Editor and Associate Publisher, The Columbus Dispatch, The Honorable Michael H. Watson, Judge, United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, The Honorable Richard A. Frye, Judge, Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, and Kathleen M. Trafford, Counsel to the Firm, Porter Wright, and Fellow, American College of Trial Lawyers, with host Yvette McGee Brown, Former Ohio Supreme Court Justice, Former Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge, and Partner, Jones Day.
