Democracy in Crisis Series
The current state of the media threatens our democracy. Partisan cable networks, on-line conspiracy theorists, and algorithm driven social media echo chambers spread misinformation and hate. Americans struggle to discern “news” from opinion that’s marketed as news but is really entertainment. Can truth in media be regulated? The first amendment protects our freedom to say virtually anything with very few restrictions. But when that freedom is abused, do we need new rules?
