Racism: Where Do We Go From Here? Young Black Men Speak

This event has ended, but don't worry we have a new forum each week!

Young people taking the lead in revolutions around the world from the Arab Spring to the Hippies of the ‘60s to global warming to the current Black Lives Matter is a well-documented phenomenon. Young people are long recognized as energized change agents. In a June 12 article in the Columbus Dispatch former Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman says “I absolutely believe it’s our young folks who are going to make the difference in this, (systematic racism) more than any other time. They have the ideas, the energy, the passion. They need to be substantially at the table to engage in this process. Otherwise it won’t work.” Community leaders are seeing young people around the country and world standing up and making their voices heard, which some believe will be the catalyst to transform government and business policies and practices, as well as minds and cultural mores. One young man, Playon Patrick, poet, recent Fort Hayes High School graduate, and five-time winner of the City of Columbus’ Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Oratorical Contest was chosen by the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance to introduce President Barak Obama at a June 3 virtual gathering of the group. Patrick will lead a discussion with other African American youth as CMC convenes the first of many conversations is a series Racism: Where do we go from here? on June 24.
