Central Ohio is home to global leaders in healthcare, but access to healthcare remains uneven in the region as it is for much of the country. Some 609,517 Ohioans lost their Medicaid coverage after COVID-19 protections ended last year, but there’s also cause for optimism: a record number of Ohioans enrolled in coverage this year through the Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplace. Just how large is the challenge of inequitable access to healthcare in Central Ohio? What are the costs of uneven healthcare coverage to our region, and what are the factors that prevent many from getting the care they need? What key initiatives are healthcare leaders taking to help more Ohioans access quality healthcare beyond the emergency room? How are businesses reinventing their health plans with equity in mind?
