Vaccines: Curbing COVID, Optimal Health Series

This event has ended, but don't worry we have a new forum each week!

The Optimal Health Series is presented by CMC, OSU Wexner Medical Center, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

According to the CDC website, “In the United States, there is currently no authorized or approved vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Operation Warp Speed has been working since the pandemic started to make a COVID-19 vaccine(s) available as soon as possible. CDC is focused on vaccine planning, working closely with health departments and partners to get ready for when a vaccine is available. CDC does not have a role in developing COVID-19 vaccines.” Many minds are employed to create a vaccine to conquer the continued spread of COVID 19. In just the past few days, Pfizer announced that it is getting close to releasing a vaccine that has tested to be 90% effective and can be made available rapidly to a large swath of the country. Our panel will discuss the process of developing a vaccine, the trials, like those at OSU Wexner Medical Center, that began in September, and how the research is progressing.

Featuring Susan L. Koletar, MD, FACP, FIDSA, Director, Division of Infectious Diseases; Principal Investigator, COVID Clinical Trials Unit, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center; Lauren O. Bakaletz, Ph.D., Principal Investigator and Director, Center for Microbial Pathogenesis, and Vice President, Basic Sciences, The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, with host Greg Moody, Interim Director of Professional Development, John Glenn College of Public Affairs, The Ohio State University.
